Just In: UNC Basketball Coaches Are Observing a Top Priority NC State Prospect.

If in-state center Zymicah Wilkins wasn’t on the UNC basketball recruiting radar prior to Friday, surely he is now.

During the DMV Live event at DeMatha Catholic High School (Md.) over the weekend, UNC basketball assistants Brad Frederick and Sean May were in attendance on Friday to observe two games that featured Zymicah Wilkins, a highly sought-after rising senior from Christ School (N.C.). It’s evident that Wilkins’ performances made a strong impression on the Tar Heels.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward, who has significantly risen in the rankings to No. 85 on the 247Sports 2025 Composite since January, showcased his talent by contributing 25 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one block, and two steals in a game against Bishop McNamara High School (Md.), despite a close 70-66 loss. Wilkins achieved a 10-for-17 shooting record from the field and made all five free throw attempts. Additionally, he didn’t commit any turnovers and only had one personal foul.

Shortly after the first game, he continued to impress by contributing 17 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, five blocks, and one steal in a 74-65 victory over Bishop Ireton High School (Va.). He had one turnover and one foul during this game, shooting 7-for-17 from the field and making all three free throw attempts. Zymicah Wilkins has had an offer from NC State, a rival of UNC, for nearly a year.

Up to now, only approximately twelve other teams have formally joined the competition for this up-and-coming talent. However, given his recent outstanding performances while being watched by numerous potential suitors, it’s likely that several more recruiters, including quite possibly UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis, will offer him a contract in the upcoming days and weeks.
