Courtney Banghart with a big score in the Class of 2025.

Courtney Banghart and the North Carolina women’s basketball team secured a commitment from Taliyah Henderson on Friday evening. Henderson is a five-star prospect from Tucson, Arizona.

The five-star wing is ranked No. 21 in the Class of 2025, making her the first commitment of Coach Banghart’s recruiting class, which is a significant achievement for the Tar Heels as they look to the future. Standing six feet tall, she had several other offers, including from Tennessee and UConn, but chose to join the team in Chapel Hill, where she will help fill the gap left by departing players in 2025.

When discussing her decision to attend North Carolina, she highlighted the university’s high academic standards and excellent journalism program. Henderson also expressed admiration for the coaching staff and the community that the Tar Heels have shown her throughout her recruitment. According to a write-up by 247Sports regarding her commitment, she aims to bring “size and versatility” to Coach Banghart’s team.

Most recently, Henderson played with the Canadian 18u National Team, and she is set to begin her final season at Salpointe Catholic High School before embarking on her college journey in Chapel Hill.
