Just In: Xavier Is Looking For Another Big Man In The Transfer Portal.

Xavier to host Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Justin Abson on a visit

Xavier plans to welcome Justin Abson, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound basketball player transferring from Appalachian State, for a visit on Friday. Abson, who hails from Pompano Beach, Florida, is known as a proficient big man.

Last season as a sophomore, he averaged 7.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game, earning recognition as the Sun Belt’s Defensive Player of the Year.

He set a record for the most blocks in a single season at App State and was the sole player in the country to achieve at least six blocks in five different games. With two years of eligibility remaining, Abson is also scheduled to visit Michigan on Saturday.

Moreover, Xavier recently secured a commitment from John Hugley, a low-post scoring and offensive-minded player from Oklahoma. To complement Hugley’s strengths, the team is seeking a strong defender, and Abson appears to be a potential match for that role.
