Kadary Richmond’s Encouraging Return Highlights Seton Hall Big East Schedule

Seton Hall fans should mark January 18th on their calendars, as well as all supporters of Big East basketball. That’s when Kadary Richmond will return to Prudential Center, this time donning a St. John’s jersey. Jon Rothstein announced this eagerly anticipated “homecoming” on Twitter.

After leading Seton Hall to the NIT championship in April, the 6-foot-6 Richmond emerged as the top transfer in the portal and signed with Rick Pitino at St. John’s the following month. He will be the first player to compete for Syracuse, Seton Hall, and St. John’s.

“Not everyone may agree with my decision, but I hope they understand that sometimes you have to make choices that align with your goals in life,” Richmond told the NY Post at the time. “If they were in my position, they might see things differently. I expect some backlash and strong reactions from various people.”

Starting his career at Syracuse, Richmond averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists last season, earning a spot on the All-Big East First Team. He helped Seton Hall defeat St. John’s twice in the regular season, though the Red Storm had the final win in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals.

“I have a lot of admiration for him as a player,” said Rick Pitino, the Hall of Fame coach at St. John’s. “I think he’s the best passer I’ve seen in college for a long time, probably since the days of Magic [Johnson]. He’s an exceptional passer.”

Richmond, Pitino, and St. John’s will kick off the Big East season against DePaul on December 17 at Carnesecca Arena, coinciding with Seton Hall’s opening game at Villanova, as noted by Rothstein.

Dan Hurley and the two-time defending NCAA champion UConn will begin league play on December 18 at home against Xavier.

The Big East plans to release its complete schedule later this week.

As for Seton Hall’s non-conference schedule, the Pirates will start their season on November 4 against Saint Peter’s at Prudential Center, followed by games against Fordham on November 9 at Walsh Gym and Hofstra on November 13 at UBS Arena.

They will participate in the Charleston Classic during Thanksgiving, facing VCU, Vanderbilt, and Nevada from November 21-24.

In December, they have two notable non-conference matchups against Oklahoma State (December 8) and at Rutgers (December 14).

ADAM SANDLER VISITS SETON HALL

On Tuesday, Adam Sandler made a visit to Seton Hall and Walsh Gym. The comedian and actor is known for his many sports films, including “Hustle,” a 2022 movie where Sandler plays a struggling NBA scout who finds a talented but unrefined basketball player in Spain (Juancho Hernangómez) and works to get him ready for the NBA draft.
