“Legends Unite: Star-Studded Day at Local Racetrack Celebrates Racing Icons”
This weekend in Clinton marks an eagerly anticipated event for horse racing enthusiasts: Legends Day at Clinton Raceway. This biennial celebration gathers some of the sport’s most revered drivers at the renowned racecourse, promising a unique race and interaction experience for attendees.
Ian Fleming, General Manager of Clinton Raceway, enthusiastically describes the event as a highlight on the local calendar. “It’s a great day to come! We bring together racing legends who race here and engage with fans, all while raising funds for the hospital. It’s a fantastic day for horse racing and a wonderful opportunity for our community,” Fleming affirms.
Scheduled for this Sunday, Legends Day will feature eight harness drivers hailing from the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. Throughout the day, these luminaries will not only compete in a special race but also interact closely with spectators.
“When you think of legends like John Campbell, who’s arguably the greatest driver ever and from Ailsa Craig, it’s truly special. We also have the Waples, who are local legends themselves, all of whom are enshrined in the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. Many of them will be here on Sunday,” Fleming points out.
Beyond its significance in the racing world, Legends Day serves as a major charitable initiative for the Clinton community. Since its inception in 2001, the event has raised an impressive $330,000 for the Clinton hospital and local schools.
“We hold Legends Day every second year, and it consistently stands out as our biggest day,” notes Fleming. “In addition to the races, we host a barbecue for the hospital and organize both an online and silent auction. Our goal this year is to raise $60,000 for the hospital. It truly is a win-win day for everyone involved.”
