Louisville Hires Sean Dixon as Associate Head Coach
The University of Louisville men’s basketball program has officially added Sean Dixon as its new associate head coach, head coach Pat Kelsey announced Friday.
“Sean brings it all as a coach,” Kelsey said. “He’s an exceptional teacher, strategist, recruiter, and relationship-builder with a magnetic presence. Early in his career, when I was at Winthrop and he was at UNC Asheville, we faced off in intense conference battles. As Asheville’s top assistant, he played a pivotal role in demonstrating how mid-major talent can succeed at the Power Four level.”
Kelsey highlighted Dixon’s recruiting prowess, noting that six players Dixon helped bring to Asheville later excelled at high-major programs, including Dwayne Sutton (Louisville), Andrew Rowsey (Marquette), Dylan Smith (Arizona), MaCio Teague (Baylor), and Jonathan Baehre (Clemson). “Every year, they would lose one star and replace them with someone even better,” Kelsey said.
Dixon expressed his excitement about joining the Cardinals: “I’m thrilled to be a part of Coach Kelsey’s staff and the Louisville program. The KFC Yum! Center is an intimidating venue, and I look forward to contributing to a championship-level program.”
Dixon comes to Louisville after four seasons at Clemson, where the Tigers accumulated 98 wins, including 55 ACC victories, and reached the NCAA Tournament three times, including an Elite Eight run in 2023-24. During his tenure, Clemson’s defense ranked among the top 25 nationally over the last two seasons, according to KenPom.
Before Clemson, Dixon spent four seasons at Middle Tennessee and five seasons at UNC Asheville under Nick McDevitt. At MTSU, he helped guide the team to a 26-11 record, a 13-5 conference mark, and a regular season C-USA championship. At Asheville, he helped the program claim three Big South titles—one tournament championship in 2016 and two regular season titles in 2017 and 2018—and served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator in his final season.
Dixon began his coaching career at Presbyterian College, where he also played. A two-time team captain, he scored 1,106 points and earned multiple all-conference honors. He graduated in 2007 with a degree in business administration before eventually returning to Presbyterian as an assistant coach.
Dixon is married to his wife, Tara, and they have two children: daughter Kinsley and son Kyler.
