ETSU names Aaron O’Callaghan men’s golf head coach
Dr. Richard Sander, the Athletic Director of East Tennessee State University, revealed the appointment of Aaron O’Callaghan as the new head coach of ETSU men’s golf on Monday.
Having served as the associate head coach at Wake Forest for the past six seasons, O’Callaghan is now the fourth head coach to take charge of the esteemed Buccaneer program.
Expressing enthusiasm about O’Callaghan’s arrival, Dr. Sander stated that the decision to bring him on board was a natural choice. He commended O’Callaghan’s stellar reputation within the golf community and emphasized that his coaching style, personality, and track record align perfectly with the criteria set during the recruitment process. Dr. Sander expressed confidence in O’Callaghan’s ability to excel at ETSU.
Mike Hulbert, who has a longstanding acquaintance with Coach O’Callaghan, is eager to collaborate with him. Hulbert praised O’Callaghan’s achievements at Wake Forest under Coach Jerry Haas, highlighting his strong points in recruiting and relationship-building.
O’Callaghan brings a decade of coaching experience to ETSU, having previously spent four years at Louisville before joining the coaching staff in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In his statement, O’Callaghan expressed immense excitement about leading the men’s golf program at ETSU, emphasizing his admiration for the program’s legacy. He looks forward to ushering in a new era of success and expressed gratitude to Dr. Richard Sander and Dr. Brian Noland for entrusting him with the leadership of the program.
During O’Callaghan’s tenure at Wake Forest, the team achieved significant milestones, including multiple tournament wins, appearances in NCAA Regionals and Championships, and breaking program records.
O’Callaghan’s coaching expertise has led to the success of individual players and the team as a whole, resulting in numerous accolades and accomplishments for the Demon Deacons.
Looking ahead to his new role at ETSU, O’Callaghan and his wife are eager to join the Johnson City community and are determined to strive for excellence, aiming to bring a national championship to the Buccaneers.
