The Hokies hosted a Boise State commit during the Boston College game and offered him a scholarship last week.
During their bye week, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff took the opportunity to hit the road for recruiting, which was much needed after a challenging start to the 2024 season with a 3-3 record.
While in Texas, Pry encountered running back Brendon Haygood and left with an offer for the player. It’s evident that Virginia Tech is aiming to persuade Haygood, a Class of 2025 prospect, to reconsider his commitment made just last month to Boise State.
Brendon Haygood, a running back from Sachse, Texas, committed to Boise State on September 22. Now, a month later, the Hokies are hoping to convince him to flip. Virginia Tech currently has a commitment from running back Jeffrey Overton from Quantico, VA, in the Class of 2025.
At 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Haygood is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports. He recently visited Blacksburg during the Hokies’ impressive 42-21 win over Boston College, where he witnessed Bhayshul Tuten break the Virginia Tech single-game rushing record with 266 yards and three rushing touchdowns, along with one receiving TD.
Despite losing athlete Matthew Outten, who switched his commitment to Penn State on Labor Day weekend, Pry’s recruiting effort for the Class of 2025 has been productive. Overton is a highly sought-after running back, and now Virginia Tech is eyeing a potential flip from Haygood away from Boise State.
Haygood has scheduled visits to Houston on October 26 and Texas Tech on November 9, indicating that Virginia Tech will face competition from other schools vying for his commitment.
