Massive Insights on Southern University Football Preparation For Huge Homecoming Show-Down

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Southern University football is currently in second place in the SWAC West after achieving one of the most unlikely comebacks in recent history against Texas Southern.

The Jaguars were down by seven points with just 30 seconds remaining when Southern safety Herman Brister III blocked a punt deep in Tigers territory, giving the Jaguars possession at the 16-yard line.

On the very next play, Southern quarterback Noah Bodden connected with Quay Davis in the end zone, tying the game and sending it into overtime. Texas Southern received the ball first in overtime but missed a field goal attempt. The Jaguars then capitalized on their possession, with kicker Joshua Griffin securing the victory with a 34-yard field goal, ending the game at 22-19.

That win has added excitement to Southern’s upcoming homecoming game against Alcorn State this Saturday. Both teams are undefeated in conference play, so the winner will take control of the SWAC West and determine their own path forward.
