“Massive News” Panthers Reportedly Signing Rookie WR Sensation To Practice Squad

It seems the Carolina Panthers will retain an early fan favorite after all.

According to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, rookie wide receiver Jalen Coker has cleared waivers and is set to join the Panthers’ practice squad. The 22-year-old was among six players the team waived on Wednesday.

Coker, a standout from the College of the Holy Cross, was signed by the Panthers as an undrafted free agent this spring. The impressive 6-foot-3, 213-pound receiver was expected by many to be a Day 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and quickly gained a following among Carolina fans.

He also caught the attention of head coach Dave Canales, who gave a detailed assessment of Coker during rookie minicamp.

“His size, instincts, and ability to separate at the top of routes stand out,” Canales noted in May. “He’s very crafty in zone coverage and knows how to locate open spaces. He also has a nice run-after-catch ability and can break tackles due to his size. He attacks the ball at its highest point, showcasing a unique skill set that he brings to our team.”

As of Thursday morning, the Panthers officially announced the signing of 13 players to their practice squad.
