The Pistons didn’t offer an extended stay to former NC State basketball bucket-getter Dereon Seabron.
In late September, after spending two seasons on a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans to kick off his professional career, Dereon Seabron from NC State signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Detroit Pistons. However, this non-guaranteed contract for training camp and preseason does not guarantee him a spot on the Pistons’ 2024-25 roster.
Seabron scored six points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in just 10 minutes off the bench during Detroit’s 108-92 preseason victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
However, the next day, the Pistons announced they had released the Wolfpack’s 2021-22 ACC Most Improved Player from Norfolk, Va., as they prepared for the official start of the 2024-25 season.
It looks like the 24-year-old Dereon Seabron will kick off the 2024-25 season with the Detroit Pistons’ G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.
During his two years with the Pelicans, Seabron played in just 11 regular season games, averaging 1.6 points in 6.1 minutes per game.
As a standout sophomore in Raleigh, he led the 2021-22 NC State basketball team with an average of 17.3 points, in addition to being a member of the All-ACC Second Team with team-high averages of 8.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
After that, he declared for the 2022 NBA Draft but was not selected.
