Michigan Football Adamant on Flipping a Blue-Chip Cornerback From Auburn, As Major Deal Looms

Auburn flipped Nate Marshall from Michigan football this week, could the Wolverines return the favor with a blue-chip cornerback?

It hasn’t been a great week for Michigan football in recruiting, as the Wolverines lost their top commitment for the 2025 class to Auburn.

Nate Marshall, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive lineman ranked No. 49 overall, had initially committed to Michigan in April but has now flipped to the Tigers.

Although this setback is disappointing, it isn’t catastrophic, as I’ve discussed this week. The Wolverines are actively pursuing flips of their own, particularly at the cornerback position, with one of their main targets being Auburn’s four-star cornerback Donovan Starr.

Starr hails from Brentwood, Tennessee, stands 6 feet tall, weighs 176 pounds, and is ranked No. 416 in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

After committing to Auburn in June, he also drew interest from Clemson, but the Tigers have a crowded cornerback lineup for 2025. According to EJ Holland from The Wolverine, Michigan is making a strong push to flip Starr.

This effort may benefit from a potential visit this fall. It seems other programs are also interested in Starr, but according to Holland, the Wolverines should expect him to visit soon.

Starr has impressive speed, running the 100-meter dash in 10.56 seconds, which is notable for a player of his size. Ravenwood High School is familiar territory for Michigan football, as they previously recruited current cornerback Myles Pollard and Junior Colson, who played for two seasons before joining Jim Harbaugh with the LA Chargers.

Campus visits often play a crucial role in recruiting, and having Starr visit Michigan would indicate that the Wolverines have a genuine opportunity to sway the Auburn blue-chip commitment.
