Osseo (Minn.) Heritage Christian Academy defensive lineman Abu Tarawallie, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound player, has been extensively involved in the recruitment process.

He received offers from several universities such as Wisconsin, Michigan State, Kansas State, and Minnesota. According to 247Sports, he is recognized as a highly-rated three-star prospect with a rating of 87. He is ranked as the 80th best defensive lineman nationally and the second best in the state.

However, on a Friday evening, Tarawallie made his decision public on Twitter, choosing to stay in-state and commit to the Golden Gophers. In an interview with 247Sports, he explained that during a visit earlier in the week, he had a conversation with the defensive line coach, Winston De Lattiboudere, where he expressed his desire to commit.

After discussing it with his family and close friends, who were all supportive, he went back for an official visit on Friday. There, he informed Coach Fleck of his decision to join the team, resulting in a joyful reaction from the coach who expressed his excitement with multiple hugs.

“I had a moment of revelation this week regarding Minnesota, which I believe was guided by God after some prayer on Monday,” Tarawallie shared with 247Sports. “My bond with Coach DeBo is strong; he’s like a supportive older brother to me.

He envisions me contributing as an interior player at tackle within his team. I already feel like I belong there. I’ve known Emmanuel Karmo for about a year now, but our recent interactions have brought us closer and strengthened our friendship.”

Tarawallie expressed his relief at concluding the recruiting process, stating, “I’m all set. No more visits or camps. I am a committed member of the Gophers now. My knee feels great after participating in a basketball tournament over the weekend, and I am eager to showcase my skills this upcoming fall.”

With Tarawallie and Emmanuel Karmo, Minnesota has secured the top two in-state recruits for their 2025 class. Tarawallie will be part of a defensive line group that includes Torin Pettaway, Enoch Atewogbola, Emmanuel Karmo, Colin Hansen, and Rhett Hlavacka. His addition strengthens their interior defense.
