“Mixed Feelings” As Birmingham Stallions Releases Offensive Lineman, Standing at 6’7″ and weighing 325 pounds

On Monday, the Birmingham Stallions announced the release of offensive lineman Matt Kaskey, as reported on the UFL Transactions page.

Kaskey, who stands 6’7″ and weighs 325 pounds, is a 27-year-old from Winnetka, Illinois. He played in 10 games for the Stallions in 2024, starting in four of them. That season, Birmingham’s offense excelled, ranking first in total yards (3,475), rushing yards (1,347), and touchdowns (31), while finishing second in passing yards (2,128) and averaging 347.5 yards per game. The Stallions capped off their successful season by winning the UFL Championship with a 25-0 victory over the San Antonio Brahmas.

Kaskey began his professional career as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, and also had a stint with the Carolina Panthers. He joined the Stallions as a free agent on December 13, 2022, and played nine games in 2023, starting eight of them.

During the 2023 season, the Stallions ranked second in passing yards (2,170), passing yards per game (217), and completion percentage (67.4), while leading in passing touchdowns (21). They also ranked third in rushing yards (1,156) and tied for second in rushing touchdowns (11), contributing to their second consecutive USFL championship win.

Following the 2023 season, Kaskey signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on August 9, 2023, but was released just 20 days later. He returned to the Stallions on November 6, 2023.

In college, Kaskey played four seasons at Dartmouth (2015-2018), primarily as a left tackle in 38 games, starting 28. In 2018, he was part of an offensive line that helped Dartmouth achieve a ranking of 15th in the FCS coaches poll, 11th in rushing yards per game (254.7), sixth in fewest sacks allowed (7), and eighth in team passing efficiency. Kaskey earned First Team All-Ivy League honors twice and received the Jake Crouthamel Award in 2017.
