“Mixed Feelings” As Early 2026 UNC Basketball Target May End Up Reclassifying

The 2026 UNC basketball wishlist includes at least one potential 2025 talent

Miikka Muurinen, a forward from Compass Prep in Arizona, is among six 2026 prospects who have received offers from UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis and his team. The 6-foot-10, 195-pound stretch-four talent has had his Tar Heel offer since July and will turn 18 in March, but he is likely to be included in the program’s 2025 offer list instead.

On Sunday morning, Muurinen, a five-star prospect ranked No. 12 overall in the 247Sports 2026 Composite, informed HS Top Recruits that he is contemplating a reclassification to 2025.

Muurinen has made official visits to Utah, Michigan, and Arkansas, all in September. He is set to visit Duke, UNC’s rival, for an official visit starting Friday, and he also intends to visit Kentucky.

As of now, the Finnish prospect has not indicated any plans to visit the Tar Heels.

According to 247Sports, Miikka Muurinen has received offers from UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, Alabama, BYU, Cincinnati, Illinois, Texas Tech, and UCLA. He has not yet disclosed any finalists or a timeline for his decision.

The other five players who have received 2026 basketball offers from UNC include five-star guard Jordan Smith Jr. from Paul VI Catholic (Va.), five-star forward Caleb Holt from Grayson High School (Ga.), five-star forward Cole Cloer from Caldwell Academy (N.C.), five-star forward Tyran Stokes from Notre Dame High School (Calif.), and four-star forward Kendre’ Harrison from Reidsville High School (N.C.).

At the same time, the Tar Heels are still in the running for several 2025 prospects as they look to secure their first commitment for that class.
