New Additions: Tim Corbin Welcomes Two Assistant Coaches to Vanderbilt Baseball
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin has announced the addition of two new assistant coaches, Jayson King and Ty Blankmeyer, to the Commodores’ baseball program.
Corbin expressed enthusiasm about the appointments, noting the familiarity and strong connections he and associate head coach Scott Brown share with both King and Blankmeyer. “It feels like we are bringing on family members who have been part of our program for quite some time,” Corbin remarked. “They both understand Vanderbilt, but most importantly, value the opportunity to be teaching here.”
Jayson King joins Vanderbilt after a distinguished tenure as head coach at Dayton, where he amassed a wealth of coaching experience over 27 years. During his time with the Flyers, King secured 840 career victories, including 165 wins during his seven-year stint as head coach at Dayton. Prior to his role at Dayton, King served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Army in 2017, following 18 seasons as head coach at NCAA Division II Franklin Pierce.
At Franklin Pierce, King achieved significant success, leading the Ravens to 10 NE-10 Conference championships, seven appearances in the NCAA Northeast Regional, and seven trips to the NCAA Division II College World Series. His coaching prowess was recognized with numerous accolades, including seven American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Northeast Region Coach of the Year awards and seven Division II Coach of the Year honors from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA).
Reflecting on King’s addition to the coaching staff, Corbin praised his extensive experience and leadership qualities. “Jayson is someone who I have known and respected for many years,” Corbin said. “He simply gets the best out of every situation that he’s in, regardless of the resources. He’s tough, relentless, has winning fibers, and a teacher’s heart.”
Ty Blankmeyer joins Vanderbilt from Duke University, where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons. Blankmeyer played a pivotal role in Duke’s recent successes, including setting a program record with a .980 fielding percentage and winning the ACC Tournament championship in 2024. His coaching career began at Wake Forest as a volunteer assistant coach, where he contributed to significant improvements in base running and fielding metrics.
Blankmeyer’s baseball pedigree is deeply rooted in his family. His father, Ed Blankmeyer, holds the distinction of being the winningest coach in St. John’s University history, while his grandfather, Mike Sheppard Sr., enjoyed a legendary coaching career at Seton Hall University. Ty Blankmeyer himself had a notable playing career at St. John’s, where he helped lead the team to Big East titles in 2015.
Corbin highlighted Blankmeyer’s transition from MLB scouting to collegiate coaching, emphasizing his keen eye for talent evaluation and strong teaching abilities. “For a young guy, Ty comes with a great deal of evaluation and teaching experience,” Corbin noted. “He has a magnetic personality that kids attach themselves to.”
The additions of Jayson King and Ty Blankmeyer are expected to enhance Vanderbilt’s coaching staff, bringing a wealth of coaching experience, leadership qualities, and a track record of success to the Commodores’ baseball program. As Vanderbilt prepares for the upcoming seasons, the coaching duo will play integral roles in shaping the team’s development and continued pursuit of excellence on and off the field.
