Newcastle United midfielder issues 45-word farewell message after departure confirmed
Newcastle United transfers: Midfielder Lucas De Bolle issued a farewell message ahead of his release from the club this summer.
Lucas De Bolle, along with a number of other academy players who have served long tenures, will depart from Newcastle United by the end of the month. Despite not making a competitive first-team appearance for Newcastle, De Bolle dedicated nine years to the club’s academy and was even selected for the bench during The Magpies’ 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage in November 2023.
During the 2022-23 season, De Bolle was loaned to Hamilton Academical in Scotland, where he scored once in 26 matches. Following the 2023-24 campaign, De Bolle joined the Newcastle squad for two post-season friendly matches against Tottenham Hotspur and the A-League All Stars in Australia.
De Bolle made appearances as a substitute in both games, with Newcastle drawing 1-1 against Spurs and a youthful squad suffering an 8-0 defeat to the All Stars XI. The second match marked the conclusion of De Bolle’s time with Newcastle, as his departure from the club was officially confirmed shortly thereafter.
After it was announced that he would be leaving the club, De Bolle shared a collection of photos from his time at Newcastle on Instagram, accompanied by a message: “My nine-year journey at Newcastle has now concluded. Since becoming part of the club in 2015, I’ve cherished numerous wonderful moments representing the team. I want to express my gratitude to all the staff, players, and fans who have aided and backed me throughout this adventure.” De Bolle departs Newcastle after being a consistent presence in the Under-21s team and earning two appearances for Scotland Under-21s.
