NFL QB Rankings 2024, 3.0: Midseason Assessment

With eight weeks into the 2024 NFL season, it’s time for my updated Quarterback Rankings. I previously released rankings before the preseason and again before Week 1, and now I’ve gathered enough information to adjust those rankings based on current performance.

32. Andy Dalton/Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers (Down from 22)
Dalton had a brief moment of promise when he stepped in as the Panthers’ starter in Week 3, but it was against the Raiders, and he hasn’t produced since. Bryce Young has yet to show significant progress in his career, and he returned as the starter in Week 8, yielding similar lackluster results. The outlook in Carolina is grim.

31. Daniel Jones/Drew Lock, New York Giants (Same spot)
It took far too long for the Giants to bench Daniel Jones due to his hefty contract. He faced criticism after failing to throw a touchdown at home for over 600 days. Jones was reinstated for the game against the Steelers, but the results didn’t improve. The situation in New York remains dire.

30. Gardner Minshew/Aidan O’Connell, Las Vegas Raiders (Down from 28)
Minshew’s performance led to him being benched, while O’Connell struggled and got injured. Now Minshew is back, but the Raiders need to consider their options in the upcoming draft.

29. Will Levis/Mason Rudolph, Tennessee Titans (Down from 23)
Levis has kept the Titans competitive, but he’s also made questionable decisions, resulting in a benching for Mason Rudolph. The team might be regretting their decision to move on from Malik Willis, who is thriving in a more suitable system.

28. Deshaun Watson/Dorian Thompson Robinson/Jameis Winston, Cleveland Browns (Down from 26)
Watson’s career is in jeopardy, not just due to his Achilles injury but because his performance prior was subpar. After his injury, Thompson Robinson stepped in but was quickly benched for Winston, who managed to lead the Browns to a win against the Ravens.

27. Derek Carr/Spencer Rattler/Jake Haener, New Orleans Saints (Down from 18)
The Saints started strong but faltered once Carr was injured and Rattler and Haener took over. The initial success now looks questionable given their recent struggles.

26. Jacoby Brissett/Drake Maye, New England Patriots (Up from 27)
This ranking reflects a mix of performance. Maye showed promise before suffering a concussion, while Brissett stepped in to lead the team to a second victory.

25. Anthony Richardson/Joe Flacco, Indianapolis Colts (Up from 29)
Richardson’s potential is still unfulfilled, while Flacco has managed to keep the Colts competitive. Richardson has been benched again, but the team insists his starting days are not over.

24. Tua Tagovailoa/Skylar Thompson/Tim Boyle/Tyler Huntley, Miami Dolphins (Down from 14)
Tua’s play is fraught with risk, and the Dolphins’ offense struggles without him, regardless of their star receivers.

23. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (Down from 20)
Murray’s performance is lackluster, leaving questions about his true capabilities.

22. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos (Up from 30)
Nix has exceeded expectations, improving significantly after a rocky start and showing his college experience pays off in the NFL.

21. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (Down from 13)
Lawrence has better stats than some elite quarterbacks, yet inconsistency and issues with drops from his receivers have hindered his performance.

20. Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets (Down from 15)
Rodgers faces criticism for poor performances and interceptions, indicating that Father Time may be catching up with him.

19. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers (Down from 9)
Herbert’s performance has dipped this season, largely due to a lack of support from key offensive players.

18. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles (Down from 12)
Hurts is an exciting player but seems to have reached his peak and isn’t quite at the elite QB level.

17. Justin Fields/Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers (Up from 24)
Fields showed promise before being benched for Wilson, who rejuvenated the offense against the Jets and Giants.

16. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (Down from 7)
Despite receiving a lucrative contract, Prescott struggles under the pressure of expectations.

15. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears (Up from 21)
Williams is improving week by week, displaying potential to become a franchise quarterback.

14. Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons (Up from 16)
Cousins had a standout game with over 500 passing yards, though he plays for a team with defensive issues.

13. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams (Down from 8)
Stafford has faced challenges this season, playing without key offensive players for a significant portion of the year.

12. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders (Up from 25)
Daniels has emerged as a dynamic player, highlighted by a thrilling last-minute victory against the Bears.

11. Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings (Up from 32)
Darnold’s resurgence has been surprising, and he could be a strong contender for comeback player of the year.

10. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers (Same spot)
Despite losing key offensive weapons, Purdy continues to perform at a high level, remaining among the top quarterbacks.

9. Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks (Up from 19)
Smith has proven he can consistently perform at a high level, moving past earlier doubts about his abilities.

8. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Up from 17)
Mayfield plays with confidence, leading the league in touchdown passes while also facing turnover issues.

7. Jordan Love/Malik Willis, Green Bay Packers (Up from 11)
Both quarterbacks have shown promise, with Love demonstrating poise and competence when on the field.

6. CJ Stroud, Houston Texans (Down from 5)
Stroud has established himself as a top performer, leading the Texans with impressive consistency.

5. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (Down from 3)
Burrow has rebounded after a slow start, becoming one of the league’s top quarterbacks, but he needs better defensive support.

4. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (Same spot)
Allen had a strong start to the season, showcasing his talent but still needing to improve in key moments.

3. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (Up from 6)
Goff’s performance deserves recognition as he leads a strong Lions team, dispelling doubts about his abilities.

2. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens (Same spot)
Jackson is arguably the best quarterback in the league this season, showcasing his elite talent consistently.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (Same spot)
Mahomes remains the top quarterback, demonstrating his ability to win regardless of statistical performance.
