After attending the Board of Governors meeting, he spoke with Oilers President Jeff Jackson, who indicated that while they are confident a deal will get done, there’s no urgency to finalize it immediately when McDavid becomes eligible.

“If McDavid doesn’t sign on July 1st, there’s no need for fan panic or concern,” LeBrun emphasized. “This is a process they’ll navigate together. They maintain strong communication with their captain and franchise player. If it doesn’t happen on July 1st, everyone in Oilers Nation should just breathe easy.”

With several months before McDavid’s extension needs to be signed, Oilers management is urging their fans to be patient. The discussions surrounding Draisaitl were intense and led to some uncertainty among fans.
