After suffering a season-ending injury in his debut with the Tar Heels, Max Johnson has made a decision about his future. On Friday, Johnson announced his intention to return to North Carolina for the 2025 season after his 2024 season was cut short due to a broken right leg. He told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that he still has “a lot of football left” and is eager to get back on the field.

Johnson’s North Carolina career was cut short just three quarters into his debut when he broke his leg. At the time of the injury, he had completed 12 of 19 passes for 71 yards with one interception. Despite his early exit, North Carolina secured a 19-17 victory.
North Carolina is the third school Johnson has played for, following previous stops at LSU and Texas A&M.
