The Memphis Grizzlies have gotten off to a strong start this season, holding an 8-7 record and sitting ninth in the Western Conference standings.
This success comes despite significant injuries to key players, including superstar point guard Ja Morant, who has only played in eight games due to a hip issue. Additionally, Zach Edey has missed time with an ankle injury, and G.G. Jackson II is still sidelined with a foot injury he suffered during the offseason. This situation mirrors last year, when Memphis finished 13th in the West due to a series of injuries.
Despite these setbacks, the Grizzlies have continued to perform well, largely thanks to the efforts of Jaren Jackson Jr. and a high-powered offense. Memphis is averaging 119.1 points per game, ranking fourth in the league. However, the team could still benefit from adding another elite scorer to their lineup. One potential trade target is Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, who is having an impressive start to the season.
Herro is currently averaging 24.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, shooting 48.6% from the field and 45.2% from three. His strong performance has boosted his trade value, and if the Heat decide to rebuild by moving Jimmy Butler, Herro could be on the move as well. A possible trade package for Memphis could include Brandon Clarke, Luke Kennard, Jake LaRavia, and draft picks in exchange for Herro. This would provide Miami with three solid role players and valuable draft assets, positioning them for further moves if they pursue a rebuild.
For Memphis, acquiring Herro would add another high-level scorer to complement their already potent offense. Herro’s scoring ability would mesh well with Morant, once he returns from injury, and the attention defenses would need to give to both Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. would likely create open looks for Herro.
The downside to adding Herro, however, is his defensive shortcomings. While the Grizzlies would be adding a player who has struggled defensively, their overall defensive strength, led by two former Defensive Player of the Year winners in Jackson Jr. and Marcus Smart, should help mitigate this issue.
Ultimately, adding a dynamic scorer like Herro, combined with the return of their injured stars, could elevate the Grizzlies into an underrated contender by the end of the season.
