Capitals Missing Key Players With Over 3,400 Career Points Due to Injuries
On Tuesday, the Washington Capitals announced that Alex Ovechkin will be sidelined week-to-week due to a lower-body injury, marking the first extended absence of his 20-season career. Ovechkin’s injury appears to be significant, and with his absence, the Capitals will lose not only their captain but also the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer and one of the most prolific scorers in league history.
Ovechkin is now expected to join teammates Nicklas Backstrom (hip injury) and T.J. Oshie (back injury) on injured reserve. These three veterans, all key members of the Capitals’ leadership group and the 2018 Stanley Cup championship team, have accumulated impressive career statistics.
