Oilers Trade Proposal Targets Veteran Canucks Center
With the 2026 NHL trade deadline less than a week away, activity around the league is expected to intensify. It’s the final opportunity for teams to reshape their rosters, whether they’re loading up for a playoff push or preparing for the future. The Edmonton Oilers are clearly positioned as buyers.
After falling short in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, Edmonton is determined to make another deep run this spring. That urgency should prompt them to aggressively address key weaknesses—especially amid a recent skid that has seen them drop five of their last six games.
One area in need of improvement is the bottom six forward group. The Oilers could benefit from another option at third-line center, and one intriguing name circulating in trade rumors is Teddy Blueger of the Vancouver Canucks.
Blueger is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and with Vancouver sitting at the bottom of the NHL standings, he stands out as a logical trade chip. With that in mind, a proposed Pacific Division deal would send Blueger to Edmonton.

Blueger a Logical Trade Piece for Vancouver
The Canucks have openly embraced a rebuilding direction, making them likely sellers ahead of the deadline. As a pending UFA, Blueger is one of their more obvious trade candidates.
NHL insider Chris Johnston ranked Blueger No. 26 on his trade board for The Athletic, highlighting the veteran’s defensive reliability, speed, and recent offensive uptick. His résumé also includes a Stanley Cup victory with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023, which only boosts his appeal to contenders.
For Edmonton, Blueger could slot in as a dependable third-line center or strengthen the fourth line if needed. His strong two-way play would enhance the Oilers’ depth and make him a valuable addition to their penalty kill unit.
Blueger Likely to Draw Widespread Interest
Given his defensive acumen, manageable cap hit, and playoff experience, Blueger should attract attention from several contenders. He’s also off to a productive start in 2025–26, posting five goals and eight points, along with 28 hits and a plus-1 rating through 12 games.
If the Oilers pursue him, they’ll likely face competition. Still, adding a versatile, defensively responsible center like Blueger could provide exactly the kind of depth boost Edmonton needs for another serious playoff run.
