REPORT: Arizona State’s Graham Rossini Confirms that Kicking Tryouts Still Underway.

Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini joined head football coach Kenny Dillingham on the flight back from Cincinnati last Saturday. Dillingham’s suggestion to hold open tryouts for a kicker led to an influx of emails for the two.

Dillingham initially spoke out against ASU’s kicking game but later issued an apology after Ian Hershey missed two field goals in a defeat, and the program has since offered opportunities to interested students.

“Rossini mentioned that he took the time to sit down with our special teams players during the flight to ensure there was no misunderstanding and to clarify the message,” Rossini said on Thursday during an interview with Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo. However, we also aim to focus on that aspect of the game and maintain our importance on special teams just as we are on offense and defense.

Many individuals, including current students and others who are not yet enrolled at ASU, made contact. I believe the most important aspect was examining ASU students who are eligible and have good academic standing. I am aware that they are considering a few of them this week.

Rossini reported that the tryouts are still in progress.

The Sun Devils can try this out during their bye week after starting the season 5-2. Arizona State will secure a bowl game for the first time since the 2021 season if they win against Oklahoma State on Nov. 2.

Hershey transferred to ASU after being a kicker for Idaho State. He has made 20 out of 21 extra points and has made 7 out of 12 field goals this year. He has made 3 out of 8 attempts from distances of 30 yards or greater.

Nolan Krinsky is one of the individuals who recently attempted to walk onto the football team after years of chasing this goal, according to Yahoo! Sports reporter Jeff Eisenberg provided more details about this week.

Rossini said it is fortunate that there are people willing to take risks because boldness brings good luck. With that being said, if they can bring value and have made an effort to inform our coaches, I trust that coach Dillingham and the special teams coaches are considering all possibilities. This includes our two skilled kickers, providing them with additional coaching to enhance their skills and ensuring they have equal opportunities in important moments.

We’ll wait and see how it all unfolds. Sort of an advantage of a week off and pinpointing an area of our game that we need to improve.
