Report: “Massive News” UConn Women’s Basketball Program Among Finalists For Two Additional 2025 Recruits

The UConn women’s basketball team has already secured two verbal commitments from recruits in the Class of 2025.

According to On3, the Huskies could add two more as they were named among the top finalists for two additional recruits from that class.

Canadian wing Agot Makeer has included UConn in her top six schools, while IMG forward Lara Somfai has listed them in her top three.

Makeer, ranked as the No. 6 recruit in her class, has not yet visited Storrs, although she included UConn in her top 12 back in January. Her current top six also features Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Michigan State, and South Carolina.

The 6-foot-1 wing from Ontario expressed to On3 that she is prioritizing schools that have developed authentic relationships with her and her family, as well as programs where she can make an immediate impact. Makeer has already toured Michigan State and North Carolina, and she intends to visit all six schools on her list before finalizing her decision.

“It’s been my dream school ever since I was a kid,” Makeer shared about UConn. “Their interest in recruiting me has been surprising yet not surprising. They consistently develop professional players, which draws me to UConn.”

Somfai visited Storrs in the spring to watch the Huskies compete in the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Gampel Pavilion. The Australian currently attends IMG Academy in Florida, the same institution as UConn’s Class of 2025 commit Kelis Fisher. Both Somfai and Fisher are part of the IMG girls’ basketball team. Somfai is ranked No. 31 in the Class of 2025, while Fisher is ranked No. 25.

Initially, Somfai had a top five that included Duke, UConn, Stanford, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech, but she has since narrowed it down to UConn, Duke, and Stanford.

Besides Fisher, UConn’s other current commitment for the Class of 2025 is Gandy Malou-Mamel, ranked No. 68, from Ireland, who is currently attending high school in New Jersey.
