Reports: Buzzing With Excitement As Students Ecstatic To Debut Revamped Brian Kern Family Stadium

MADISON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Dakota State University is putting the finishing touches on the Brian Kern Family Stadium at the Beacom Premier Complex, marking the first new athletic facility on the DSU campus in nearly 70 years. The Beacom Premier Complex is gradually becoming a symbol of a bright future for Madison.

“When you drive by at night and see the lights, it truly shines. It might sound cliché, but it’s a bright, beautiful facility that’s a real asset for the community. I haven’t fully absorbed the significance of this moment yet,” said Stacy Krusemark, VP of Business Administration Services at DSU.

Senior running back Tyce Ortman from Canistota has been part of the team for two years, experiencing the shifts in playing fields as construction progressed. In 2022, the team played on grass at the old venue, and in 2023, they moved to the newly completed soccer field.

The project, funded by approximately $40 million in donations and private contributions, was not expected to be completed before Ortman’s senior year, making August 29 particularly significant for him.

“I thought it would be finished after I graduated, so I’m thrilled to have the chance to play at least one season here,” Ortman said.

Despite ongoing construction, there are plans to incorporate esports into the facility, expanding its use beyond game days. Krusemark highlighted the facility’s versatility and the pride the university and Madison community feel for this new asset.

“Being able to use this facility for game days, non-game days, and showcasing Dakota State University is something we’re very proud of. It’s going to offer a fantastic game day experience here in Madison, South Dakota,” Krusemark added.

Ortman believes the new facility could be the start of something special, attracting more student-athletes and recruits to DSU.

“This could really draw in more transfers and recruits, and I think DSU is on the verge of building something significant here,” Ortman said.

The facility will officially debut on August 27 with a concert as part of “Trojan Nights,” followed by its first home game on August 29.
