Reports: Georgia Tight End Sensation is Prepared for New Expanded Role in the Offense

Georgia football tight end Oscar Delp will play a crucial role in the Bulldogs’ offense this season.

Despite the loss of key pass catchers to the NFL this offseason, there is still plenty of enthusiasm surrounding Georgia’s receiving corps. While the departures of Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint create a gap in the offense, the team has several players they are confident will step up, including tight end Oscar Delp, whose expanded role will be vital this season.

Georgia relied heavily on Bowers, who is considered one of the best tight ends in college football. While it’s unrealistic to expect Delp to match Bowers’ production from the past three years, he is certainly capable of taking on a significant role at tight end this season.

Delp has repeatedly answered the call when needed throughout his career. For instance, during the 2022 college football playoff semifinal against Ohio State, he filled in admirably as a true freshman when Darnell Washington was injured. Delp ended the 2023 season with 24 receptions, 284 yards, and three touchdowns. He stepped up as the primary tight end during Bowers’ absence last season, maintaining Georgia’s tradition of high-caliber tight end performance.

Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo also demonstrated a willingness to target Delp with deep passes last season, even with Bowers on the field. If more of those opportunities had connected, Delp’s stats and narrative heading into this season might look different. Ultimately, having Delp ready to step into the starting role after Bowers’ impressive career is a fantastic situation for Georgia this year.
