Reports: Paul Finebaum Didn’t Hold Back As He Gets Brutally Honest When Criticizing SEC Head Coach

Finebaum had some strong criticism.

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum expressed strong criticism of Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze.

In a recent appearance on Always College Football with Greg McElroy, Finebaum discussed Auburn’s Week 2 home defeat to the Cal Golden Bears and raised doubts about Freeze’s desire to lead the program.

“His demeanor isn’t great either,” Finebaum commented. “I’ve been around Hugh Freeze a few times, and he doesn’t really seem like he wants to be there. I know that sounds like a bold statement, but something seems off with him.

“At least show that you want the job. Display some emotion. That’s the impression I’ve gotten from being around Hugh Freeze.”

Since becoming Auburn’s head coach before the 2023 college football season, Freeze has compiled a 7-8 record. The Tigers had elevated hopes when they brought in the former Liberty/Ole Miss coach, but he has not met those expectations.

In Week 3, Freeze and the Tigers will host New Mexico for another home game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Afterwards, they will face a challenging slate of SEC opponents, including Oklahoma, Georgia, and Missouri.

Saturday’s game against New Mexico is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
