Offspring of Boston Celtics Champion Included in Boston’s Summer League Lineup

The 2024 Summer League roster of the Boston Celtics has been revealed, including familiar names such as Jordan Walsh, Neemias Queta, Jaden Springer, and Baylor Scheierman. However, one particularly notable addition is Jaelen House, the son of former Celtics champion Eddie House. The complete roster was shared by The Athletic’s Jared Weiss on his X account, where House’s name attracted attention.

During his father’s tenure with the Celtics, Jaelen would often be seen around the bench, enthusiastically supporting the team. In fact, Dime magazine once featured a short interview with Jaelen, in which he discussed his experience watching his dad play for the Celtics during Eddie’s time with the team.

Jaelen’s undrafted status in 2024 hasn’t dampened his aspirations to pursue a professional basketball career, a desire evident in his participation with the Celtics’ summer league team, mirroring his father’s path. While his future in the NBA remains uncertain, there’s potential for him to find success in overseas basketball.

Jaelen House’s College Career & G-League: Jaelen initially enrolled at Arizona State University, his father’s alma mater, in 2019. However, due to limited playing opportunities with the Sun Devils, he later transferred to the University of New Mexico, where he assumed a more prominent role.

Transitioning from 21 to 31 games, Jaelen experienced a significant uptick in his average minutes per game, soaring from 18.7 to 32.2 while playing for the Lobos. Combining his stints at Arizona State and the University of New Mexico, he completed five years at the collegiate level.

Throughout his college tenure, Jaelen maintained averages of 12.3 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds, shooting at 39.4% from the field and 33.8% from the three-point line. Notably, he secured the title of the league’s Defensive Player of the Year during his final season with the Lobos, in addition to being a three-time All-Mountain West selection.

Following his college journey, he received invitations to both the NBA Draft Combine and the G-League Elite Camp.

Despite being the son of Eddie House, Jaelen has achieved notable accomplishments in his own right.

Eddie House’s Impact with the Celtics: Although Eddie’s tenure with the Celtics spanned just two and a half seasons, from 2007 to 2010, he made a lasting impact on the fans. Renowned for his remarkable three-point shooting ability, he endeared himself to the Boston faithful and significantly bolstered the team’s performance, particularly during their playoff campaigns in 2008 and 2009, with his adept floor-spacing skills.

House played a key role in the Celtics’ acquisition of their 17th championship in 2008. If Kevin Garnett hadn’t suffered an injury in the following season, House might have contributed to securing their 18th title in 2009.

Subsequently, the Celtics traded him to the New York Knicks midway through the 2010 season due to a decline in his performance compared to his earlier seasons in Boston. Upon his first return to Boston after the trade, House received applause from Celtics fans, a gesture that reflected their gratitude for his contributions.

After retiring from professional basketball in 2011, House has served as a commentator for NBC Sports Boston. He collaborated with former teammate and fellow Celtics champion, Brian Scalabrine. Despite his relatively brief stint in Boston, House evidently maintains a strong connection to the Celtics.
