Reports: Strong Possibilities As Miami Marlins Looks to Call Up Former A’s Pitcher

The Miami Marlins are planning to promote right-hander Adam Oller to start on Monday, as reported by Ari Alexander of KPRC2. Oller began the season with the Cleveland Guardians after his former Oakland catcher, Stephen Vogt, became the team’s manager. Although the Guardians signed him to a minor-league contract, he never made it to the major leagues with them.

The Guardians released the 29-year-old on July 3, and a week later, he joined the Marlins, being assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville. There, he has achieved a 3-0 record in six games (three starts) with a 2.88 ERA over 25 innings. His strikeout rate remains consistent with his time in Cleveland’s system at 24.5%, while his walk rate has significantly improved, dropping from 14.4% to 7.1%.

Up to this point, all of Oller’s major league experience has been with the Oakland A’s, where he compiled 94 innings with a 7.09 ERA in 28 appearances (15 starts) during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Interestingly, one of Oller’s standout performances was against the Marlins at the Oakland Coliseum in 2022. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two. Although his numbers weren’t stellar, he managed to conserve the bullpen by navigating six innings despite lacking command, which was a commendable effort.

Oller will be joining former A’s teammates Cristian Pache and Jonah Bride on the active roster, as Jesús Luzardo is currently on the injured list. The Marlins hold a record of 45-78, placing them fifth in the NL East.
