REPORTS: Top Talent, Who Had 46 Starts At Third Base In 2024, Is No Longer Part Of The Southern Miss Baseball Team.

Southern Miss baseball’s starting third baseman, Gabe Broadus, has exited the team as confirmed by a program spokesperson to the Hattiesburg American. A source revealed that Broadus has decided to take a break from baseball. The source, who chose to remain anonymous since no public announcement was made, mentioned that Broadus could not be reached for a statement.

During his junior year, Broadus started in 46 out of Southern Miss’ 63 games at third base. He showcased significant improvement throughout the season, boosting his batting average from .218 in mid-April to .271 by the end of the season. Although he did not hit any home runs in his 155 at-bats, his on-base percentage of .

432 ranked as the third highest on the team. Notably, Broadus delivered a standout performance in the Sun Belt tournament championship game, where he recorded a 3-for-4 performance with one walk and scored four runs in the 14-11 victory against Georgia Southern.

Originally from Wilmer, Alabama, Broadus spent his initial two seasons competing at Pearl River Community College, where he clinched the 2022 NJCAA DII national title.

In the previous season, three different players took on the role of starting third baseman: Eli Collins, Nick Monistere, and Seth Smith. Following this, Collins made a transfer to William Carey, whereas Monistere and Smith are set to continue their tenure at Southern Miss in 2025.
