Severe Rumors Linking Oregon Ducks Landing Key 5-Star Nation’s Top High School Prospects

Will the Oregon Ducks Land 5-Star Linebacker Jonah Williams’ Commitment?

The Oregon Ducks football team has an opportunity to enhance their already strong recruiting class this weekend.

Consensus five-star linebacker Jonah Williams will announce his commitment on August 24. He is ranked as the No. 1 linebacker by the 247Sports Composite and is one of the few top-tier prospects yet to make a decision.

As one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation, the Texas native spent his summer visiting LSU, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas. Those who closely follow Oregon’s recruiting efforts are aware that attracting Williams from his home state will be a significant challenge. Texas had the final visit with Williams, giving them a perceived edge in the race for his commitment.

Since taking over in Eugene, Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning has demonstrated his talent for recruiting top talent from across the country, particularly from Texas. He has secured commitments from five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore and top-100 cornerback Dorian Brew from Texas for the 2025 class.

Lanning has actively invested in recruiting elite prospects nationwide. Moreover, Oregon football’s chief of staff, Marshall Malchow, and running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples bring valuable connections to Texas that benefit the program.

During his recruitment, Williams visited Lanning and his staff three times, showcasing his interest in the Ducks. However, Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports recently predicted that Williams would commit to the Texas Longhorns, a prediction that has garnered Williams’ attention.

Williams’ skills on the baseball field could complicate his recruitment process. With a real possibility of being chosen in the early rounds of the 2025 MLB draft, he might choose to skip college altogether.

Current Duck Bryce Boettcher has played for both the Ducks’ football and baseball teams. After being drafted by the Houston Astros in 2023, Boettcher opted to put his MLB aspirations on hold to play another season under Lanning.

“I’m just grateful to be here,” Boettcher shared in the newest episode of “That Team Out West.” “It can be tough sometimes, but I really enjoy it, and I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.”

Following Williams’ decision, there are only a handful of uncommitted Oregon prospects in the 2025 class. As for next year, the Ducks currently have the top recruiting class in the country.
