Significant News As Seattle Kraken Set Their Roster, Including Two Top Gifted Prospects
The Seattle Kraken have finalized their roster for the start of the 2024-25 season, showcasing a preview of the franchise’s future.
Two top prospects for the Kraken, both high draft picks by the franchise, are making their NHL roster debut this opening day: Shane Wright, a 20-year-old center selected in the first round of the 2022 draft, and Ryker Evans, a 22-year-old defenseman chosen in the second round of the 2021 draft.
Wright made his debut during the 2022-23 season, scoring a goal and assisting once in eight games. Last season, he registered four goals and an assist in another eight games. He was notably drafted fourth overall by the Kraken after being widely anticipated as the potential top pick.
Evans, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 198 pounds, had his NHL debut last season, playing in 36 games and contributing one goal along with eight assists for the Kraken.
According to NHL.com, Wright is ranked as Seattle’s top prospect, while Evans is their fourth. Elite Prospects places Wright as the third overall NHL prospect and the only Kraken player in their top 100 list.
The Kraken’s roster also includes key offseason additions such as defensemen Brandon Montour and Josh Mahura, along with center Chandler Stephenson.
The season opener for the Kraken is set for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. against the St. Louis Blues, which will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+.
In the Seattle area, most Kraken games will air this season on free, over-the-air KONG TV.
This marks Seattle’s first season under new head coach Dan Bylsma.
