Southern Football Coach Terrence Graves Gives Massive Pep Talk Ahead Of First Season At Helm Of Team

BATON ROUGE—Southern University head coach Terrence Graves held a press conference Tuesday afternoon in anticipation of the Jaguars’ season opener.

Graves was appointed as head coach last December after serving as interim head coach during the 2023 Bayou Classic. He had previously been an assistant coach before taking on the top position.

The Jaguars are scheduled to play McNeese State University in Lake Charles on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Graves expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.

“It’s been a long and hot camp. The players are tired of hitting each other and are eager to face an opponent for real,” he stated.

When asked about his adjustment to the new role, Graves mentioned the shift in responsibilities.

“I find myself dealing with more off-field matters now than I did as an assistant because I allow my coaches to handle the offense, defense, and special teams. I’m focusing on the internal and external aspects, so I do miss some of the on-field coaching,” he acknowledged.
