Statistics: The Huskies’ most formidable defender

During the last season of UConn women’s basketball, six different players distinguished themselves by hauling in over 100 rebounds each. Notably, all but one of these athletes also achieved a minimum of 30 steals throughout the season. Aubrey Griffin, a rising redshirt senior, stood out despite not reaching either milestone, contributing significantly whenever she took to the court.

Across 14 games played, Griffin maintained an impressive average of 9.5 points and six rebounds per game. Additionally, she facilitated team play with 20 assists, displayed defensive prowess with 21 steals, and asserted herself with 13 blocked shots. Hailing from Ossining, New York, Griffin compensated for the absence of a double-double by shooting over 50% from the field in 10 games.

Had she been able to participate for the entire season, Griffin’s performance suggested she would have been a strong contender for an All-Big East team placement and possibly earned recognition as an All-American Honorable Mention. Her impact on the team’s success was undeniable, showcasing her versatility and dedication to the sport throughout the season.
