Things to watch: Tennessee Volunteers Football Fans Receive More Tantalizing News to Cheer About

Matt McCarty had planned to attend the Tennessee Volunteers’ game against the Alabama Crimson Tide last weekend. However, fate had other plans when he earned a starting spot in the Shriners Children’s Open, preventing him from witnessing one of college football’s biggest upsets this season, especially since his younger sister is a student there.

How did he get into the field last week in Vegas? He secured his place by winning at the Black Desert Championship just a week earlier, marking only his third PGA Tour start.

“I was actually supposed to go to that game, but I told myself that if I finished in the top 10 and got into Vegas, I wouldn’t go,” McCarty shared on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar. Clearly, he exceeded just a top-10 finish.

“So we ended up going to Vegas.”

Not a bad destination after securing your first PGA Tour victory! Naturally, co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz asked McCarty how he celebrated his milestone while in “Sin City.”

McCarty shared that they wasted no time kicking off the festivities after making the two-hour drive from Ivins, Utah to Las Vegas late Sunday night.

“A lot of time spent in Vegas with the boys,” McCarty joked. “We had some college friends join us throughout the week, along with a couple of guys I grew up playing golf with. It was a lot of fun, and my girlfriend was there for a couple of days too. We really did it right.”

He mentioned that Blackjack and Bearcat were their games of choice.

“We started off strong but then cooled down a bit,” he said. After all, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
