An Ohio State Buckeyes defender is expected to enter the transfer portal soon. Despite the team’s strong focus on winning a national championship this season, one player, linebacker C.J. Hicks, appears dissatisfied with his current role on the team.

Hicks, a junior, has been outspoken about his frustration with his limited playing time. After the Buckeyes’ victory over Purdue, Hicks expressed his displeasure, stating, “They need to put me on the f**king edge.”

Although the team is enjoying a successful season, Hicks’ dissatisfaction with his situation may lead him to leave the program in the offseason. Ryan Stano of Scarlet & Game has suggested that it is “inevitable” Hicks will choose to transfer once the season concludes.

“It wouldn’t be surprising to see Hicks enter the transfer portal, no matter how the season ends. Even if Ohio State wins the national championship, Hicks will likely look for a new opportunity. The transfer portal gives players the freedom to do what’s best for them,” Stano explained.

At one point, Hicks was expected to play a key role in the Buckeyes’ defense. However, he has struggled to earn consistent playing time or develop into the player many anticipated, and his frustration has grown as a result.

So far in the 2024 season, Hicks has recorded 19 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one pass defended. While his stats aren’t bad, they reflect the limited role he has been given.

Should Hicks decide to leave Ohio State, there will likely be no shortage of programs eager to secure his commitment, as his talent is undeniable. Unfortunately, it seems that his time with the Buckeyes may be coming to an end, and he is likely to make the decision that is best for his future, which could mean transferring.
