Titans Bring Back Veteran Kicker on One-Year Contract
The Tennessee Titans have been active at the start of NFL free agency and don’t appear to be slowing down. While the league’s legal tampering period has introduced the possibility of several new players arriving in Nashville, at least one familiar face will remain with the team.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Titans are re-signing kicker Joey Slye to a one-year deal. The veteran kicker, who has been in the NFL for seven seasons, converted 28 of his 35 field-goal attempts for Tennessee last year, finishing with an 80% success rate. He also made 26 of 27 extra-point attempts, totaling 110 points during the 2025 season—his second-highest scoring total in a single year.
Slye entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018 after playing four seasons at Virginia Tech. He later signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2019 and made his professional debut against the Los Angeles Rams. Since then, he has spent time with multiple teams, including the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers. Before joining Tennessee in March 2025, he played the 2024 season with the New England Patriots.
Last season, Slye’s longest field goal came from 58 yards in a game against the New Orleans Saints. Over the course of his career, he has also set franchise records for the longest field goals with both the Commanders (61 yards) and the Patriots (63 yards). Overall, he has made 175 field goals in his career, giving him an 81.4% success rate.
Titans’ Offseason Points Toward Major Changes
Although Slye’s return keeps some continuity on special teams, the Titans are expected to welcome several new players ahead of training camp. The organization made a significant change during the 2025 season by dismissing head coach Brian Callahan and later hiring defensive-minded Robert Saleh to lead the team.
Tennessee also recently added former Houston Texans punter Tommy Townsend, who will now share special-teams duties alongside Slye. Two other notable free-agent additions include defensive end John Franklin-Myers, formerly of the Denver Broncos, and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson from the New York Giants.
Even as free agency settles down, the Titans are preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft. After holding the first overall pick in 2025, Tennessee will select fourth in the 2026 draft. Some analysts believe that spot could allow the team to target Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, potentially strengthening an offense led by last year’s No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Cam Ward. 🏈
