TOP NEWS: Rangers In a Unbelievable Huge Mix For Pursue of $22.5 Million Ex-Cardinals Stud In Trade

Will the former Cardinals hurler get traded this winter?

Could a former St. Louis Cardinals player be on the move this winter in a significant trade?

As the 2024 Major League Baseball season approaches its end, a wave of rumors about free agency and trades is sure to follow. While it’s still early for definitive predictions, Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer has compiled a list of potential trade candidates, naming former Cardinals pitcher Jordan Montgomery as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ player most likely to be traded.

“The D-backs’ 25millioninvestmentinMontgomeryresultedina6.23ERAthisseason,soit′sunderstandableifKendrickfeelsfrustrated,”Rymernoted.”However,iftheleftydecidestooptintohis 22.5 million option for 2025—something he probably will—it could create a dilemma for Arizona. The best move for all involved might be to trade him for a fresh start.”

Rymer suggests that the Diamondbacks might need to cover some of Montgomery’s 2025 salary to facilitate a trade, but not necessarily the full amount. Possible landing spots include the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Mets.

The mention of the Rangers is particularly intriguing. St. Louis traded Montgomery to Texas in 2023, where he contributed to their World Series run. It appeared he wanted to come back to Texas this past offseason, although that didn’t materialize.

After signing a short-term deal with the Diamondbacks and facing struggles, could the Rangers consider reuniting with him? Texas has some tough decisions ahead and could potentially lose pitchers like Nathan Eovaldi this winter, making a return for Montgomery seem plausible.
