CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois linebacker Ben Bogle earned the Stats Perform FCS and Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday after a standout solo performance for the record books.
The sophomore linebacker from Ponte Vedra, Fla. recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, contributing to SIU’s 31-17 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday.
Southern’s defense was exceptional in the fourth quarter, limiting the Governors to minus-eight total yards. Bogle played a crucial role, making key tackles that led to turnovers on downs and notching 2.5 sacks in that decisive period.
His 6.5 tackles for loss set a new single-game school record. As a team, SIU tallied nine sacks during the game.
Bogle is now the eighth player in the school’s history to receive national Player of the Week recognition, and he is the first since safety PJ Jules won the award in 2023.
