WKU Football quarterback Caden Veltkamp has been honored as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Veltkamp delivered a strong performance in WKU’s 31-14 victory over Sam Houston on Wednesday in Huntsville, Texas, helping his team improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in CUSA play. He completed 20 of 29 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions. He effectively distributed the ball, with five players making three receptions each and two others catching two passes. Additionally, Veltkamp contributed 27 rushing yards, including a 19-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that helped secure the win.

This marks Veltkamp’s third game of the season with at least three touchdown passes. The rushing touchdown was his fifth of the year and his second consecutive game with one. He has recorded at least one passing and one rushing touchdown in four games this season.

This is the second time Veltkamp has received the league’s Offensive Player of the Week award this season, having previously been honored on September 16 after leading WKU to a 49-21 victory at Middle Tennessee.

WKU has now seen a Player of the Week named for two consecutive weeks, totaling five CUSA weekly honors this season. Kicker Lucas Carneiro was named CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week on October 14, while defensive back Devonte’ Mathews and punter Cole Maynard earned Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week accolades on September 23.

The Hilltoppers currently lead the CUSA standings with a 3-0 league record, tied with Liberty, while Jax State remains unbeaten in conference play at 2-0.

WKU will take a break this week before returning to the field to play Kennesaw State in a home Black Out game on Wednesday, October 30. Kickoff at Houchens-Smith Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. A free pregame concert featuring Flo Rida will take place on South Lawn starting at 5 p.m. CT.
