UNC Emerging as a Leading Candidate for ACC Transfer Standout
North Carolina has quickly positioned itself as a serious contender for one of the top talents in the transfer portal, with a decision potentially on the horizon.
Head coach Michael Malone and his staff have been actively reaching out to numerous portal players. While no commitments have been finalized yet, there’s growing optimism among Tar Heels fans that positive news could be coming soon.
One of the most sought-after players available, former Wake Forest guard Juke Harris, has already connected with Malone and the UNC coaching staff. The Tar Heels conducted an in-home visit with Harris and were also spotted meeting him at a restaurant near Wake Forest.
Harris, a sophomore guard, is coming off an outstanding season despite Wake Forest’s overall struggles. He averaged 21.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists, emerging as a standout performer and quickly becoming one of the most coveted names in the portal.
Michigan appears to be UNC’s biggest competition in the race to land the 6-foot-7 guard. Harris previously met with head coach Dusty May and the Wolverines’ staff but has yet to make a commitment—an encouraging sign for North Carolina.
After a challenging offseason marked by multiple transfer departures, securing a player like Harris would be a major boost for UNC. Pairing him with incoming recruits Dylan Mingo and Maximo Adams could significantly strengthen the roster heading into next season.
Initially, Michigan was viewed as the frontrunner for Harris, but North Carolina has since made a strong push, tightening the race. Another factor working in UNC’s favor is Harris’s roots—he’s from Salisbury, North Carolina, which could make staying close to home an appealing option.
With the first signing window opening on April 15, a decision from Harris is expected soon. For Tar Heels supporters, his commitment would provide an encouraging start to the Malone era in Chapel Hill.
