Since Urban Meyer left in 2010, the Gators have had a few successful seasons, most notably an 11-2 record under Dan Mullen in 2019. However, the program has been on a downward trend since then. Napier’s current struggles aren’t just about losing games but how the team has performed, especially in losses to the Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies, where the Gators have only accumulated 562 yards of total offense and been outscored 74-37.

With Napier on the hot seat, speculation has emerged about potential replacements, with names like Jedd Fisch, Lane Kiffin, and former Gators coach Urban Meyer surfacing. Meyer, who led the Gators to two national championships in six seasons, remains a fan favorite despite the controversies that surrounded his tenure.

However, Meyer recently shut down rumors of his return on The Triple Option podcast, stating, “that ship has sailed,” making it clear that he’s not interested in a second stint with Florida. This allows the Gators to focus on other coaching options as they contemplate Napier’s future.
