New 2025 OL Commit Cameron Herron Gives Bold Explanation On Notre Dame Decision

Cameron Herron found himself in unfamiliar territory as he wrapped up his recruiting journey.

The 2025 Indiana offensive lineman realized he needed to prioritize his own interests.

In doing so, Herron determined that Notre Dame was the right fit for him, leading him to withdraw his verbal commitment to Iowa—made in July—and instead commit to the Irish on Monday.

“I don’t want to look back and think, ‘Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve,’” Herron shared with Irish Sports Daily. “I just want to aim high and pursue my goals without regrets. I want to go for it all.”

He credited Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph as the primary influence behind his decision.

“He’s one of the best in the nation,” said Herron about Rudolph. “He’s genuine and serious about everything. Throughout the recruiting process, he was upfront with me the whole time.

“He’s focused on helping you become your best self, both on and off the field. He expects excellence from you every day and pushes you and the entire offensive line group.”

Herron received an offer from Notre Dame shortly before his official visit this past weekend.

“Coach Rudolph has been advocating for me to get an offer for a long time,” Herron explained. “Since I first met him, he’s been trying to get that offer. They had limited spots due to already committing three offensive linemen, and they were only looking for tackles after losing two to the NFL.”

Ultimately, the situation worked out in Herron’s favor, allowing him the opportunity to visit last weekend.

“The main thing I wanted to do during the visit was to connect with the players, see the atmosphere, and experience the fan base,” he said of his official visit. “It was my first game day, and I wanted to engage with the players to see if I could fit in and establish a bond. I place a high value on connections within the offensive line.”

And he found those connections.

“The entire o-line group pushes each other to excel,” he noted. “They all strive to reach the NFL and support one another in that pursuit. Being around them, I can see they’ll help me grow into both a great person and player.

“I love their commitment to personal excellence.”

While making the switch was challenging, Herron is now looking forward to his future.

“I’m excited. Just being around them for a few days, talking and connecting, really gets me pumped. It truly does.”
