Vikings Receive Encouraging Kyler Murray Update Ahead of Sunday

The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback situation remains a major storyline as they prepare to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday. With Kyler Murray’s status still uncertain, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has provided an encouraging update regarding the veteran quarterback’s health.

Murray has made noticeable progress throughout the week. He returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant while continuing to work through the NFL’s concussion protocol. At this point, backup quarterback Carson Wentz is still viewed as the player most likely to start Sunday’s game.

However, Murray’s return to practice is a positive development. Rapoport noted that the quarterback’s participation gives him an opportunity to play Sunday, provided he continues to advance through the concussion protocol.

“As far as Kyler Murray goes, the Minnesota Vikings, we will see if they end up having their starting quarterback, but the fact that Murray was a limited participant in practice yesterday means based on the NFL’s concussion protocol, which will be the determining factor here, he has a chance to play on Sunday if he continues to progress as he has been.”

Murray’s limited participation on Wednesday marked an important step in his recovery. He has continued progressing during the week, including watching film before taking part in practice. The veteran quarterback appears to be following the necessary steps to put himself in position to potentially face the Bears on Sunday.

Vikings QB Has History Against the Bears

Murray also brings plenty of familiarity with Chicago, having faced the Bears three times during his career and posting a 2-1 record in those games. He has been particularly efficient against them, throwing for four touchdowns without an interception while recording a 104.1 passer rating.

His most impressive performance against Chicago came during his time with the Arizona Cardinals. On December 5, 2021, Murray completed 11 of 15 passes for 123 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, according to StatMuse.

If Murray is cleared to play Sunday, his previous success against the Bears could provide another interesting storyline heading into the matchup.
