Georgia Southern Surprised Marshall By Scoring 21 Consecutive Points In The Last Eight Minutes, Their First Victory Over The Thundering Herd In Over Twenty Years.

STATESBORO, Georgia. (WTOC) – Marshall dominated Georgia Southern for 50 out of the 60 minutes in Statesboro on Saturday night. The Eagles’ momentum shifted during the fourth quarter after a safety, resulting in one of the greatest comebacks in program history.

Georgia Southern won against Marshall 24-23 at Paulson Stadium on Saturday, securing the top spot in the Sun Belt East standings.

How did the Eagles manage to come back so quickly? During the next possession for Georgia Southern following the safety, JC French suffered a possible concussion. Dexter Williams II was asked to play quarterback, and the rest is now part of the past.

On his first drive, Williams guided Georgia Southern down the field and ultimately scored the team’s opening touchdown of the game. Two expensive fumbles by Marshall in the final four minutes enabled the Eagles to make a comeback.

Williams found Derwin Burgess Jr. for a 34-yard touchdown with 1:55 remaining, securing the game-winning score. Georgia Southern took the lead for the first time in the evening.

Marc Stampley clinched the victory by making an interception during Marshall’s last possession. Stampley had intercepted the ball for the second consecutive game.

Williams completed 10 out of 14 passes for 135 yards, scoring one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown. In addition to his game-winning touchdown reception, Burgess made seven catches for a total of 84 yards.
