Chargers Receive Significant Advantage Ahead of Week 1

With the Los Angeles Chargers’ season opener approaching, new injury information has emerged that could give the Bolts an important edge against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Chargers have developed something of a reputation for winning the offseason. Their roster additions often generate plenty of excitement, only for injuries to pile up once the regular season gets underway and some of that optimism to disappear.

Entering the 2026 campaign, however, Los Angeles is in a much better position from a health standpoint. The Chargers have dealt with only one season-ending injury, while a handful of other players have landed on short-term injured reserve. Compared with some of the injury problems they’ve experienced in previous seasons, that’s an encouraging development.

Of course, staying healthy only matters if the Chargers can turn that advantage into wins. They managed to do exactly that early in the 2025 season, and they’ll look to follow a similar path this year.

The Bolts appear to be in relatively good shape heading into their Week 1 meeting with Arizona. The bigger concern for the Cardinals is their own injury situation.

Cardinals’ Injury Situation Gives Chargers Another Advantage

Arizona wasn’t entering the 2026 season with particularly high expectations to begin with. Questions surrounding the quarterback position, combined with concerns about the overall talent on defense, have made the Cardinals a team facing an uphill battle.

Now, injuries have made the situation even more challenging.

Arizona is already expected to be without several players, including Tip Reiman, a valuable blocking tight end; Chase Bisontis, a highly regarded rookie offensive lineman who was expected to serve as the team’s top reserve; Kaleb Proctor, an explosive Day 3 rookie defensive lineman; and James Conner, the veteran running back who has traditionally performed well against the Chargers.

Those absences have been known for some time, but the latest weekly injury report provides an even clearer picture of the personnel situations for both teams.

Los Angeles has relatively few concerns. The Chargers are expected to be without Deane Leonard, who serves as their fourth cornerback and primary special teams gunner. Tuli Tuipulotu, meanwhile, is listed as questionable. His potential absence would be significant considering he is arguably the team’s best edge defender.

Arizona’s injury report is considerably more concerning. The Cardinals are reportedly dealing with absences involving Isaiah Adams, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson and Garrett Williams, while Jeremiyah Love remains questionable.

Adams could be the most significant loss. He won Arizona’s starting guard job and was reportedly viewed favorably by the coaching staff heading into the team’s transition to its new offensive system.

Taylor-Demerson was also expected to contribute defensively. Despite his smaller stature, he has earned a reputation as an energetic player capable of bringing plenty of intensity to the defense.

Williams provides additional depth and special teams value, so his absence would further thin a Cardinals secondary that already has some question marks.

Then there’s Love, perhaps the biggest name among the players listed. The Cardinals selected him in the top five of the most recent draft, making his status particularly noteworthy. Although he is officially questionable, reports indicate that Love is expected to play and make his NFL debut as scheduled.

Even if Love ultimately takes the field, Arizona potentially being without Adams, Taylor-Demerson and Williams gives Los Angeles another significant advantage heading into the Week 1 showdown.

If the Chargers can stay healthy and take advantage of Arizona’s depleted roster, they could have an excellent opportunity to start the 2026 season on a positive note.
