After announcing his de-commitment from Utah earlier this week, highly sought-after four-star offensive tackle Aaron Dunn has now committed to USC, delivering a significant blow to Utah’s recruiting efforts this year. Hailing from Spanish Fork, Dunn is the second high-profile in-state recruit to choose USC over the Utes, following top wide receiver Jerome Myles, who switched his commitment from Ole Miss to the Trojans earlier this year.
Fans are starting to wonder why Utah isn’t experiencing the recruiting success expected, with one clear possibility being that the NIL landscape has shifted, making it difficult for Utah to compete with powerhouses like USC. Additionally, some attribute the recruiting challenges to inconsistent on-field performance. In Myles’ case, despite the Utes having ample receiving talent, including new addition Dorian Singer, the team’s run-first philosophy can be discouraging for a young wide receiver.
As for Dunn, the situation is less clear-cut. While the Utah offensive line has had its struggles, they have also performed well in blocking for a successful run game led by Micah Bernard. Despite losing such talent, Utah will persevere; the program has a history of achieving more with less, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
