While some roster changes were anticipated, one came as a surprise. As the NBA preseason wraps up, teams are busy finalizing their rosters ahead of the regular season starting on October 22.
Several former UNC basketball players were affected by the roster cuts, with four Tar Heels waived since the preseason ended on Friday night.

Cormac Ryan was released by the Oklahoma City Thunder after being on an Exhibit-10 contract with the team during the preseason.
Pete Nance was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers after signing a two-way deal in February. The former Tar Heel primarily played for the Cleveland Charge during the 2023-2024 season before making his way to the main roster, where he participated in eight NBA games.

One of the most unexpected decisions has been the Miami Heat waiving Nassir Little. The Heat signed Little on September 24, but his stay with the team was brief.
While it’s disappointing that these former UNC basketball players haven’t secured spots on NBA rosters, they still have numerous chances to exhibit their talents. Whether through competition in the G-League or, in Little’s case, awaiting another shot in the NBA, these players will be prepared to step in whenever needed.

Armando Bacot was waived, just like Ryan, as both were under an Exhibit-10 contract.
It’s worth mentioning that most players on Exhibit-10 deals are waived but often end up with their team’s G-League affiliate. While it would have been thrilling to see one (or both) secure a spot on the main roster at the start of the season, the more probable scenario is that they will begin the year in the G-League.
