Could the Panthers Strike Again with Another Trade that Hurts the Cowboys?
Could the Carolina Panthers pull off another deal that leaves the Dallas Cowboys on the losing end?
The Panthers certainly got the better of the Cowboys in their previous trade when they sent underperforming wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and a seventh-round pick to Dallas in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Mingo went on to make just five catches for 46 yards in eight games with the Cowboys, and though there’s still a chance he could develop, it seems increasingly unlikely he’ll turn things around.
Now, could Carolina take advantage of Dallas again ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft?
In a recent mailbag for Cat Scratch Reader, Brian Beversluis responded to a fan’s proposal to trade Carolina’s eighth overall pick to Dallas for the 12th and 44th picks. The Cowboys are reportedly interested in Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, and the fan suggested Dallas could use the eighth pick to secure him.
Beversluis called the idea of trading up for Warren “an interesting choice” and acknowledged that adding more weapons for Dak Prescott could make sense, although he noted that it might be a bit steep for the Cowboys.
For the Panthers, this trade could be a major win, especially if they plan to focus on defense with their first-round pick. With rumors swirling that Carolina might target a pass rusher at No. 8, moving back to No. 12 could give them the flexibility they need to make the pick they want while still gaining valuable additional assets.
But the question remains: Would the Cowboys really risk being burned by the Panthers once again?
